SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA PREMIERE OF "SISTER'S CHRISTMAS CATECHISM" OPENS AT LA MIRADA THEATRE NOVEMBER 4

 

LA MIRADA, Calif., October 20, 2005 -- The La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts is headquarters for the hilarious forensic examination of "The Mystery of the Magi's Gold" when "Sister's Christmas Catechism" opens November 4. "Sister" is played by the originator of the role, Maripat Donovan, well-known for her basic assumption, "Sometimes we feel guilty because we are guilty." She had help with the guilt trip from collaborators Marc Silvia and Jane Morris.

 

It's "CSI goes to Bethlehem" as Sister delivers side-splitting holiday laughs when she involves audiences in the creation of a living nativity in her search for the missing gold. Sister hunts under the manger and over camel humps, always looking for that "teaching moment." Along the way, she gives the audiences a lesson about the origins of nativity sets and lets us in on a few assumptions and secrets we never imagined.

 

"We know Mary used the frankincense and myrrh as a sort of potpourri - they were in a barn after all." But what became of the gold? "Mary and Joseph could have afforded a hotel room if they had it."

 

"Sister's Christmas Catechism," runs through November 20 at La Mirada Theatre, 14900 La Mirada Boulevard, La Mirada, near the intersection of Rosecrans Avenue, minutes north of where the 91 and 5 freeways meet. Performance times are Tuesday - Thursday, 7:30 p.m.; Friday, 8 p.m.; Saturday, 2:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.; Sunday, 2:30 and 7 p.m. (no matinee Saturday, November 5 or evening performance on Sunday, November 6). The McCoy Rigby Entertainment Broadway Series continues in January with "Over the River and Through the Woods," followed in March by "Swing!," in April with two nights of the world famous "Count Basie Orchestra," and concluding in June with "Johnny Guitar, The Musical."
